The Kenya Education Network (KENET) (http://www.kenet.or.ke) is the National Research and Education Network (NREN) of Kenya. It builds and operates the national broadband private IP-based network that interconnects universities, research institutions and other educational member institutions in Kenya. KENET also builds and operates the community cloud infrastructure to support specialized enterprise, research ICT and educational technology services. KENET’s mission is to catalyse the transformation of education and research in Kenya using ICT.
KENET provides broadband Internet connectivity services, community cloud services such as web hosting, Infrastructure as a Service and Video/Web Conferencing as a Service and specialized research services (e.g., certification authority, identity provider and access to science gateways) to member institutions that includes all the major universities and research institutions in Kenya. It provides the Cybersecurity Emergency and Response Team (CERT) services for connected academic institutions.
KENET promotes and supports research and education collaboration through Special Interest Groups (SIGs) in different academic areas with a focus on STEM areas of agriculture, computational modeling and materials science, computer science and information systems, educational technology, engineering, and medicine. It conducts e-readiness surveys of selected member institutions and departments in partnership with faculty and researchers drawn from member institutions.
KENET is now seeking to ﬁll the following positions in order to fulﬁll its mandate:
1 Chief Operations Officer Job Reference No. 1001901
This is a general management position that reports to the Executive Director and shall have overall responsibility for technical and business operations as well as coordination of ongoing research and educational technology projects undertaken by KENET or KENET grantees.
The ideal candidate shall have a PhD in Engineering, Computer Science or Information Systems or equivalent from a recognized university. In addition, the candidate should have at least 10 years’ university teaching and research experience as well as demonstrated university faculty leadership experience as dean or head of academic department in a recognized university. Demonstrated ability to attract infrastructure or research funding shall be an added advantage.
Past experience in network or telecommunications engineering and in negotiation and management of ICT Service Level Agreements shall be mandatory. Professional registration as an engineer shall be an added advantage.
2. Research Associate – Educational Technology Services (1 position) Job Reference No. 3001901
This part-time research position reports to the Executive Director. The candidate shall be a member of the KENET Special Interest Group (SIG) on Educational Technology. The key responsibility shall be to champion educational technology research through preparation of Call for Proposals for research mini-grants in emerging areas of educational technology, coordination of the evaluation proposals and award of mini-grants as well as M&E activities for the research projects.
The ideal candidate shall be at least a senior lecturer at one of the Kenyan member universities with a PhD in computer science, information systems, educational technology, or engineering. The candidate must also have demonstrated passion in teaching with technology and developing blended learning content in their respective academic areas. Experience in faculty leadership shall be an added advantage.
3. ERP Solutions Lead – (1 position) Job Reference No. 1001902
This position reports to the Executive Director and shall lead the KENET team providing technical and business advisory services to the KENET community in ERP requirements analysis and solutions design, ERP selection and procurement, and deployment of appropriate ERPs.
The ideal candidate shall have a degree in computer science, Information systems, engineering or accounting information systems and be qualified as a professional accountant (CPA or ACCA) and/or CISA Certification. The candidate must have experience in implementing ERPs and project management of large ERP projects, preferably in higher education institutions. A Master’s Degree in Information Systems or in Business or other relevant general management qualifications shall be an added advantage
4. Graduate Trainees in Applications Developement and Network Engineering (5 positions)
KENET invites suitable recent university graduates to apply to join the one-year Graduate Trainee program at KENET that aims to develop capacity in Network Engineering and Applications Development.

Applicants must have graduated in the past two years or less from the date of this advert in areas of Computer Science or Information Systems with demonstrated proficiency in one or more computer programing languages and interest in applications development.
All candidates must have demonstrated good or excellent oral and written communication skills, high ethical and moral standards and capable of working in teams with limited supervision.
