The Kenya Education Network (KENET) (http://www.kenet.or.ke) is the National Research and Education Network (NREN) of Kenya. It builds and operates the national broadband private IP-based network that interconnects universities, research institutions and other educational member institutions in Kenya. KENET also builds and operates the community cloud infrastructure to support specialized enterprise, research ICT and educational technology services. KENET’s mission is to catalyse the transformation of education and research in Kenya using    ICT.

KENET provides broadband Internet connectivity services, community cloud services such as web hosting, Infrastructure as a Service and Web Conferencing as a Service and specialized research services (e.g., certification authority, identity provider, eduroam operator and research cloud services) to member institutions that includes all the major universities, research institutions, TVETs and teaching hospitals and medical colleges in Kenya. It provides the Cybersecurity Emergency and Response Team (CERT) services for connected academic institutions.

KENET is now seeking to fill the following positions in order to fulfill its mandate:

1   Cloud Solutions Architect – (1 position) Job Reference No. 1002101

This position reports to the Enterprise ICT Solution Lead and will be responsible for analyzing member institutions academic and administrative cloud computing requirements and proposing appropriate technical cloud solutions. The solutions shall be based on private, community, and public cloud infrastructures. The ideal candidate shall have an electrical engineering, computer science or information systems or related degree from a recognized university.

2.  Network Engineer – (1 position) Job Reference No. 1002102

This position reports to the Lead Network Development Engineer and will be join a team responsible for network development of the backbone and last mile infrastructure of KENET as well as providing campus network development advisory services.

The ideal candidate shall have an electrical engineering degree from a recognized university and be registered or registrable as a professional engineer with Engineers Board of Kenya.

3. Chief Accountant – (1 position) Job Reference No. 1002103

This position reports to the Executive Director and will be expected to provide overall leadership on all financial matters in KENET including accounting, finance, tax, audit, pricing, internal controls and other related matters.

Suitable candidate will lead financial operations & management, performance analysis, reporting, direct and indirect tax compliance, risk management, payroll administration, people management and ensuring a sustainable financial position.

4. Graduate Trainees in network engineering, applications development, system administration, communication/journalism, accounting & business and instructional design – (6 positions)

KENET invites suitable recent university graduates to apply to join the one-year Graduate Trainee program at KENET that aims to develop capacity in network engineering, applications development, systems administration, science and technology communication/journalism, accounting and instructional design.

i. Graduate Trainee – Network and Infrastructure Engineering (1 Positions) Job Reference No. 2002101

Applicants must have graduated less than two years from the date of this advert from recognized universities in areas of Electrical Engineering or equivalent with specialization in telecommunication networks or power systems or mechatronics.
